Trekking & mountain trails at Cerro Catedral

Although Cerro Catedral is best known for skiing in winter, during the summer it becomes one of the top destinations for trekking in Bariloche.

Easy Trails

Gutiérrez Viewpoint

A short and very accessible walk, offering one of the most beautiful views of Lake Gutiérrez and the surrounding forests.
The trail goes through native Patagonian forest and quickly reaches a scenic viewpoint—perfect for resting, taking photos, and enjoying the landscape.
This is an ideal option for those looking for a peaceful walk in the mountains without much effort.

Difficulty: Easy
Duration: 30–45 minutes

Gutiérrez Balcony

Another popular trail in the Cerro Catedral area.
The path gradually ascends through forest until reaching a natural viewpoint with stunning panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
A great choice for those who want a short hike with a rewarding view.

Difficulty: Easy
Duration: 1–2 hours

 

Easy to Moderate

Cerrito San Martín

A beautiful hike starting from Villa Catedral that gains a bit more elevation than the previous trails.

From the top, you’ll enjoy excellent views of Cerro Catedral, lenga forests, and Lake Gutiérrez.
While still accessible, the climb is more sustained, making it slightly more demanding than the easier trails.

Difficulty: Easy–Moderate
Duration: Approximately 1–1.5 hours

 

Intermediate Trekking

Refugio Frey (Laguna Toncek)

One of the most iconic hikes in Bariloche.
The trail begins in Villa Catedral and passes through forests, streams, and mountain landscapes before reaching the stunning Laguna Toncek, surrounded by granite spires.
This hike is longer and more physically demanding, but the reward at the top is truly unforgettable.

Difficulty: Intermediate
Duration: 4–6 hours

A favorite among visitors, hikers, and climbers alike.
